Alopecia Areata is an autoimmune disease that causes the hair to fall out. As a Black woman living with this disease, I understand the challenges associated with it. Hair is such a part of what society uses to define beauty. But what happens when a woman does not have hair? Does that diminish her beauty? Does hair equate beauty? Saying, “You are so beautiful for a bald woman” is not a compliment. Hair is not the defining factor. I founded Bald Girl INC. as a means to not only bring awareness to Alopecia but partner with organizations that uplift and empower women to tackle life’s challenges. I hope sharing my personal story will show women what’s possible, despite life challenges and own what makes them unique and different.
